Reliance Jio cuts free data from 4GB to 1GB per day; Welcome Offer replaced by Happy New Year

The question of whether or not the Welcome Offer will be extended is on top of everybody’s mind because Jio had warned its competitors that it will have no option but to extend the scheme if they did not co-operate with it and compete fairly.

Since the warning, issued two months ago, competitors like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular have fallen in line and opened up their networks to incoming calls from RJio’s subscribers.

Jio, which used to give a daily updates on call failure rates between itself and its competitors, stopped doing so on Nov 7.

Separately, incumbent operators also revealed that they there is no blockage between the new entrant’s network and those of the incumbents and that the Ambani firm is free to carry on its business as it wants.

As a result, the threat of extending the Welcome Offer by another three months no longer stands.

However, given the expectation in the market, subscribers may be given some kind of offer as part of the announcements made tomorrow.

Incumbents like Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular expect the company to unveil a new set of tariffs that will either supplement or replace the plans announced on Sept 5.

Though Ambani had said that Jio will provide data at 50 rupees per GB, under the plans revealed so far, data prices range between Rs 66 to 125 per GB.
